Woolley Jumper #7

 

It's Dangerous Dan back for Part Two of 'Garbage Can Killer' by the legendary John Woolley. Originally published in Mondo's Christmas 1993 issue (#17) which sported the comic's first colour cover. At the time almost all small press efforts in the UK were black and white photocopied zines, so it was quite unique. Taking it's cue from the Death of Superman and Batman: Knightfall epic stories huge at the time, the issue featured the death of one of Mondo's staple superheroes, the British Bulldog, who of course comes back to life at the end. Mondo's editor, Lee Davis, also included the free gift of some tissues for Bulldog mourners to have a good cry!!

I thought I'd showcase some more old Mondo stuff for you... From #21 back in April 1994, here's part one of 'The Gladiator III'. It was written by Mondo's head honcho creator Lee Davis and drawn by a pre-2000AD Tom Carney who was out-Bisleying everyone at the time!! As with our 'Woolley Jumper' series the pages are presented warts and all scans from the photocopied pages of my old copies of Mondo. Watch this space for news about the restored and coloured versions, like the 'Revenant' story from a while back, coming soon... Maybe as a new Mondo special..? What do you think?

Building Blocks 2

 
Here's some more old architectural studies from the late 90s, around the Southbank Centre and the Barbican in London. First is a pencil drawing, the second and third pen and ink, and the last one is a gouache painting. Kinda like how the blue on the concrete floor looks a bit like water as if it's a view under a bridge.
