The Great Funky Punk Thingamebobs!

For anyone who is interested, Mondo- Britain's Best Comic! now has it's own Twitter account. Hope to see you there for lots of fun comics stuff.

Hope to see you there.
Drawing stuff today...

Here's a random design for the Anytown comic. He's not a particular character, but was drawn to get the feel of the story. If memory serves, one of the stories was set in a particularly unsuccessful evening in Anytown's only nightclub. It looks very 90s to me so the style of the new version might differ somewhat and I'm don't know yet if I'll revisit the nightclub plot. I'll have to find the old sketchbook it's in and give it an objective look.

At the moment there are 36 newspaper style Anytown strips from the early 2000s with another 30 or so scripted with several different plot threads running. At the time it did appear on my very early site Sillyarts (now long gone) in black and white. Here's an example-

There's also the script for one big mockumentary style story that could be expanded into a graphic novel. The story is a comedy all about the Grey family living their ordinary lives in an ordinary suburban town. Mum, dad and their three offspring but it mostly focuses on the older son, Gavin Grey, who is around 20 and wants to be a music star with his metal band Beneath Contempt, the only problem is Gavin and his mates have no talent or ability.

Here's another Anytown nightclub punter.

They were both drawn traditionally with Indian ink. I'm itching to get back to drawing traditionally, so I think I'll be doing Anytown on real paper. Would you like to see an Anytown book? I've got my dip pens and bottle of ink on standby, let's dig out that old script...

You know what this lady needs..? A new tote bag adorned with the fantastic front cover of Fred Fortune #1 to keep all her comics and stuff in.
Lucky there's one for sale on the Funky Punk Teespring store. Link below-
You can also buy the comic to keep in it, still on sale on Comic Flea Market, link further below.

Thanks for looking.

Next Time- Woolley Jumper #3.

Digital Stuff & Nonsense

Here's a quick digital painting that I did to learn the technique. It was done in Clip Studio with watercolour brushes and took roughly four hours to do. It's the first time I've used those brushes and I'm quite pleased with it. It's a steep learning curve and I'm more used to working in colour traditionally.

Next is a completed panel from Fred Fortune- City of Tomorrow. As you can see it's very dense, this isn't to visually overwhelm the reader but to reflect the intense claustrophobic nature of the future city. I think it's really effective and I'm loving doing it. For the eagle eyed amongst you in the background you will find R2D2, the Tardis and a Dalek. This one is part of the establishing scenes in the first couple of pages. Each panel is taking hours and hours to do with multiple layers and textures, greys and rain. At the time of this writing I'm doing the tone work on page 4, so it'll be a while yet before it's ready to go. Let me know what you think. I'll be posting regular updates etc so watch this space...

Just enough time to remind you that the Teespring and Redbubble stores have lots of nice Funky Punk stuff for you to enjoy so if you've got a spare few minutes to have a look I would really appreciate it. Links down below. Thanks.

Next Time- More stuff and nonsense!

Stay safe everyone.

Redbubblicious!

How's everyone doing? Hope everyone is staying positive and making the most of being at home with your loved ones. I was thinking of posting all of my old Fred Fortune comic strips for free as a webcomic, maybe on Webtoons. Is that something you like to see? It's a sci-fi comedy that I started back in the early 1990s. More details on Fred and his world to follow next time...

If you're a bit bored you could always have a browse of my new Redbubble shop where you will find lots of graphics on a wide variety of  great products (T-shirts, stickers, bags, mugs, clocks, etc). There's all sorts of stuff from loads of talented artists and new designs will be added to mine when they are ready including some merch for your old comic book pal Fred Fortune...
